Fans from the North: Native Reservation Benefits from Bulk Books

Posted by Jamie M., Book Specialist on Feb 22nd 2017

The Iethinisten:ha-Akwesasne Family Wellness Program (AFWP) found a smart way to connect their community, enhance education, and save money -- buying books in bulk! By passing out books for free to their guests, sending books to shelters, and distributing books to local reservation schools, the AFWP has shown just how much of an impact a simple book can make on a community.

The lethinisten:ha-Akwesasne Family Wellness Program (AFWP) is a domestic violence shelter located on a native reservation around the Canada/US border. This inspiring organization has been a loyal customer of Bulk Bookstore for many years, and we’re honored to share their story with you.

Education and Awareness

The AFWP focuses on providing aid to survivors and victims of domestic abuse in a supportive, caring environment. The organization has had great success using our books as a tool to inform, nurture and inspire the members of their community. “We typically give books out to our guests for free, as well as our clients who reside in-house” explains Lacey, who submitted the AFWP’s story. “In some instances, we may also send books to similar shelters within the province of Ontario.”

But they don’t stop there! The AFWP also does their part to educate children on matters of domestic violence through safe, kid friendly literature. Lacey explains, “Often times we will purchase children's literature to disburse in the local reservation schools, to help keep their educational resources up to date in topics revolving around domestic violence.”

A Celebration of Life

The AFWP purchased The Lost Years as a gift to give guests who attended their annual Celebration of Life conference. A mother-daughter collaboration co-authored by Kristina Wandzilak and Constance Curry, The Lost Years tells true stories of their family struggles, from addiction and abuse to homelessness and divorce. This brutally honest novel not only illustrates the many difficulties these women have faced, but their perseverance and strength in overcoming them. The AFWP was drawn to The Lost Years because of how it fit into the conference’s theme of intervention.

Why Bulk Bookstore?

As to why the AFWP chooses us over other bulk book companies, Lacey had this to say:

“We purchase books in bulk multiple times a year, in quantities that vary from 50-200. We love doing business with Bulk Bookstore, as they have unbeatable prices, even with our astronomically high Canadian exchange rate, it still beats out providers here in Canada. We have had phenomenal service each and every time we order.”

Bulk Bookstore is the perfect place for organizations like the AFWP to find self-help, wellness, and family care books for fantastic prices in bulk. Books not only help us strike up conversations to learn about ourselves and others, but they educate, teach, and even change lives. Any company, organization, or school can benefit from buying books -- of any sort -- in bulk.

We at Bulk Bookstore love hearing about how the organizations, schools, and companies we sell to are using their books. We look forward to working with the lethinisten:ha-Akwesasne Family Wellness Program for years to come and thank them for the amazing services they provide and the innovative, inspirational ways that they utilize our books.
