There are people who play a special role in influencing the lives of young learners without even setting foot in a classroom. This is exactly how we can describe our most recent contest winner, Katie Bromberek. 

For over a year now, Katie has served as executive assistant to the executive director of Acelero Learning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Acelero Learning is a provider of early childhood education and family engagement services, all of which are focused on closing the Achievement Gap for thousands of Head Start children and families across the country. Currently serving over 5,000 children in more than four states, Acelero Learning is focused on consistently producing breakthrough gains for children regardless of their family’s income level.

On any given day, Katie can be found assisting the people who help classroom teachers. “I enjoy knowing that my work is working toward a larger goal of bridging the achievement gap among preschool age children,” Katie told us after finding out that she had been chosen as our most recent book giveaway.

Recently, Katie has become involved in curriculum development for Acelero’s ‘learning at home’ initiative, Shine on, Families, which extends the classroom curriculum into the home environment. Students are given “PEER cards,” which are designed to take them through fun and interactive daily learning activities that foster a deeper readiness for education. And this is exactly where Bulk Bookstore comes in.

With her contest winnings, Katie made a selection from our wide range of children’s books for schools to keep her early childhood learners engaged as part of their summer curriculum. As the summer curriculum theme is “motion,” Katie chose to order Push & Pull by Patricia Murphy, a book of facts on the science behind movement.
