Newbery Award Winners

Awarded annually since 1922 by the Association for Library Services to Children (a division of the American Library Association), the Newbery Medal represents recognition of outstanding contributions to children's literature in America. Winners of the Newbery Medal can go on to claim that they have been acknowledged by the first children's book award in the world!

The name 'Newbury' comes from 18th century English publisher and bookseller John Newbury, often called "The Father of Children's Literature", who strived to ensure that children's literature be recognized legitimately as part of the literary market.
