He examines the medieval, Renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, realist, and modern periods and highlights the contributions of such writers as Hronský, Hviezdoslav, Kollár, Kukucín, Nedozerský, Papánek, Rúfus, Safárik, Tatarka, Tranovský, Vajanský, and Záborský.
