January 1952. It has been thirteen years since the Civil War ended and since Miquel Mascarell met Patro, he was arrested and sentenced to work in the Valley of the Fallen.
Memories flock to the former inspector's mind. But he manages to distract himself by helping David Fortuny in his detective agency, where the problems never seem to stop and, once again, he will be forced to intervene in a most extraordinary case. Miquel witnesses the murder of a man, however he cannot go to the police if he does not want to be involved. Although he already is: another dead body appears and, in the blink of an eye, he will have to face the most complex international plot of his life. In a diabolical succession of events, Miquel must face one of the most important decisions of his long police career, that of doing justice on his behalf, breaking his principles, or staying on the sidelines, knowing that dozens of murderers are still roaming free.
