Born in Connecticut, USA, little Annie loved art from an early age and was encouraged by her mother to pursue art. She went to art college to become a painter, but after trying out photography, she couldn’t put her camera down.
In her twenties she became the Rolling Stone magazine’s chief photographer which kickstarted a decades-long career, during which she has captured some of the most iconic images ever. Annie was also the first woman to have a feature exhibition at the US National Portrait Gallery, and the Library of Congress has declared her to be a Living Legend. Her dramatic, playful, and quirky photography has redefined what it means to be an artist.
