Nos encontramos en pleno fascismo y franquismo. La persecución a judíos, intelectuales, artistas y a todo aquel que se oponga a su régimen ha comenzado; los campos de concentración ya se han extendido para llegar hasta Francia, especialmente en Argelès-sur-Mer. Es en este contexto que surge la figura del diplomático mexicano Gilberto Bosques. Enviado primero como cónsul de México a París y luego trasladado a Marsella, él y su familia arriesgarán sus vidas para salvar a miles de personas. Por otra parte, los jóvenes catalanes Mina y Franscesc huyen de la represión buscando salvarse y prueban, en un viaje épico, que todavía podemos creer en la humanidad y que la solidaridad, la esperanza y el amor serán lo que prime en su intento por empezar de nuevo. En esta ficción histórica, Mónica Castellanos recrea terribles momentos de los años 30 y 40 en Europa, con pinceladas del México de esa época, y nos lleva de la mano a través de la heroica hazaña de Bosques y de muchos otros que hicieron posible ver una luz en tan terrible oscuridad. The persecution of Jews, intellectuals, artists, and anyone who opposes the regime has begun; concentration camps have already spread to France, especially in Argelès-sur-Mer. It is in this context that the figure of Mexican diplomat Gilberto Bosques emerges.
