Based on a recommendation by a Gallup-certified strengths coach, Blue Cross Blue Shield Director Kristina fell head over heels for StrengthsFinder 2.0, a national bestseller that allows readers to identify their top strengths so they can focus on developing what you’re good at doing. 

Now, she’s putting her passion in motion, organizing corporate classes on leadership and teamwork, utilizing StrengthsFinder to cultivate an inspired, connected community within her workplace.

The Importance of Finding Your Strengths

No matter the project or size of the team, Kristina says she consistently uses StrengthsFinder 2.0 in the workplace, and has everyone take the StrengthsFinder assessment. In 2014, when running a program with college interns, Kristina says StrengthsFinder offered the students some much needed perspective.

“One of the best things you can do is learn about your strengths,” Kristina explained. “It’s a really great way for people to talk to each other and work as a team. StrengthsFinder can help you learn important details about yourself.”

But one program wasn’t enough – Kristina knew StrengthsFinder could make a much larger impact.

Engaging Employees

Fast forward back to Blue Cross Blue Shield, where Kristina is on the Associate Engagement Team, organizing corporate classes on leadership and working to strengthen her department as a whole.

“We found that people within the financial services division were really struggling with career and teamwork,” she said. “We had people tell us ‘we don’t even know each other.’” Knowing the meaningful impact it can have, Kristina brought StrengthsFinder into the mix.

“I pushed for StrengthsFinder really hard.” Kristina exclaimed. And it paid off!

Soon, a survey was sent out to ask if anyone would be interested in a StrengthsFinder class. “We thought we’d get a couple dozen people at most but suddenly 50 employees were coming,” she said. “I actually had to turn people away!"

With an exciting event on its way, Kristina needed to procure 50 books – at once and on time. “I was always buying the books I needed for these programs from Barnes and Noble, where I would get a discount for being a member,” she explained. “But Barnes and Noble wouldn’t let me order more than 8 books at a time….”
