The Volunteer Center at the United Way of Greater St. Louis is the region’s main resource for volunteering. Service 2 Go (S2G) is a team-building volunteer opportunity offered through the Center that includes a variety of projects designed to meet the greatest needs of their community. One of these projects, the zoo-themed Reading Buddy Kit, includes the book Curious George Goes to the Zoo.

A Caring Company

S2G manager Amy spoke to Bulk Bookstore about the organization and what it does for the Greater St. Louis area. “Aligning a company’s philanthropic values with volunteerism gives employees the opportunity to give back to the community in a tangible way,” she explained.

With six projects designed to meet the greatest needs of their community, from dental hygiene kits to New Mom kits, the United Way of Greater St. Louis puts an extensive amount of thought into their actions. Benefiting children as well as adults in need, S2G is a meaningful and inspiring facet of this organization.

Zoo, Anyone?

Curious George Goes to the Zoo

Including a stuffed zoo animal, a granola bar snack, and a copy of Curious George Goes to the Zoo all tied up in a neat nylon drawstring bag, the Reading Buddy kits are a hit within United Way.

Donated to United Way member agencies and distributed to children in need, these kits are a fantastic way to provide children with reading materials and to get them excited about books too! “For example, 150 Reading Buddy Kits were donated to the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery,” Amy said. “This donation sparked a field trip to the zoo for the children of their center, and each child received a Reading Buddy Kit after the field trip.” Wow! We’re happy to be a part of this innovative, inspiring project.

Why Bulk Bookstore?

Like most customers, Amy started her bulk book search online. These humble beginnings are in the past, though, as Amy and the United Way of Greater St. Louis have been working with us for two years!

“The customer service is excellent, and the account representatives we work with are always so organized, friendly and quick to respond,” Amy explained. “They’re also happy to help brainstorm and generate new ideas if we’re looking to tweak our projects and order.”

We’re so proud to have provided a cost-effective alternative for this organization, and look forward to working with The United Way of Greater St. Louis for years to come, offering them affordable and creative ways to make their community – and communities across the nation – a little brighter.
