Overview
In this deliciously fun addition to Ashley Spires’s acclaimed Burt the Beetle graphic novel series, Burt decides to make a meal for all his insect friends. It doesn’t go as planned.
Burt the Beetle is feeling sad that he always eats alone, so he decides to throw a dinner party for all his friends. Only, as Burt tries to plan what he’ll serve, his grocery list keeps growing. It seems every type of insect eats a different type of food! Burt loves the leaves of shrubs and trees, and especially pine needles. But termites like to eat wood. Moths prefer flower nectar. Fruit flies favor decomposing plants. And that’s only the vegetarians so far! What’s a beetle to do? If only there were an easier way to offer everyone exactly what they like to eat …
Beloved and bestselling creator Ashley Spires’s signature mix of slapstick and dry humor shine in her Burt the Beetle graphic novel series. Both endearing and inadvertently funny, Burt makes the abundant scientific facts in the book enormously entertaining. This title is perfect for emerging readers and young fans of comics and of insects. It’s jam-packed with information on different types of insects and what they eat, including plant eaters, those that eat other insects, those that drink the blood of mammals, and even those that eat poop. It’s a perfect primer for life science lessons on insects’ habitats and behaviors. It also works for character education lessons on perseverance, resilience, initiative and optimism, because Burt never, ever gives up!
