Overview
Evesham was an important town in the Middle Ages, its abbey being one of the largest in Europe. One of the country’s earliest musical theorists, Walter Odington, was a monk at the abbey. The abbey is long gone but the remaining bell tower has played host to national bell ringing competitions, and has had a bell-ringing method named after it. Situated on the River Avon, the area is also noted for its rich soil and long history of fruit and vegetable production and market gardening is still strongly associated with Evesham.
