With the Anguish of the Past Storm is a collection of twenty-two stories written between 1987 and 2007. Together, they showcase Horacio Castellanos Moya’s singular talent for creating characters and settings that touch readers’ hearts with their artful dialogue.
The protagonists of these stories are fugitives whose only and inseparable companion is fear. After witnessing life-changing violence, they are rootless, doomed to a terrible existence with no end in sight. Some of the stories have their start in war, others in exile, and many in complicated romantic relationships, but all are governed by an overriding emotion: loneliness or grief.
