Overview
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
The book that inspired the film starring Johnny Depp.
A volume containing all of Charles Dickens’s Christmas stories, including the celebrated A Christmas Carol.
It has been said that Charles Dickens invented Christmas as we know it, and perhaps no other writer has evoked with such mastery the spirit of the season, at once joyful and elegiac. Inspired by the 1852 English edition, this volume brings together the celebrated A Christmas Carol and four other Christmas stories: The Chimes, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Battle of Life, and The Haunted Man. Throughout these works, the central themes of Dickens’s literary world come to the fore: charity, childhood, folk legends, social inequality, dreams, and personal redemption.
In addition to Nuria Salinas’s carefully crafted translation, this edition includes an introduction by Michael Slater, Professor Emeritus of Victorian Literature at Birkbeck College, University of London, and one of the world’s foremost experts on the life and work of the English author. Thanks to his notes, the beauty of this essential work of fiction is complemented by a precise and illuminating understanding of an entire era.
