For generations, the waters of Lake Titona have ebbed and flowed as lethal acid. According to legend, the magical saint known as Locrian waged war against her fellow saints. When her conquest failed, Locrian cursed her enemies and transformed Titona’s water into acid before casting herself and her miraculous Resonator beneath the surface.
Vicorie “Cor” Tharin knows the legends but has been frustrated by the reality of Lake Titona’s deadly waters she has doggedly spent the past 4 years sonar-mapping it for her research thesis. After spending most of her life secretly helping her brother achieve academic excellence for his mage studies, Cor has put her heart and soul into her thesis to prove her worth as a lady scientist in a male-dominated field. But she never expected to discover and retrieve Locrian’s Resonator during her exploration of Lake Titona.
Now, Archmages from the Applied Resonance Institute of Acoustic Magic have arrived to take over the project. The religious Keykeepers believe the Resonator is wicked heresy. And Titona’s own mage Sayers—gruff, overworked, but kind-hearted—is reluctantly willing to work with Cor in exchange for research that could restore the lake’s waters.
As Cor and Sayers try to unlock the Resonator’s secrets, monsters capable of muting sound stalk Titona’s people, drawn to the ancient artifact—which is not what legend says it is . . .
