Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Cantero is a directionless and apathetic young man who doesn’t know what to do with his life. After losing his parents, he is kicked out of his uncle’s house for betraying his trust and now lives from hand to mouth. He is soon sucked into the orbit of Cirro Cobalto, a shady character who keeps him under his thumb with strange errands. Two other mysterious figures, Denís and Lombardo, play a role in leading Cantero into a series of unlikely situations as dangerous and surreal as the most outlandish movie plot.

The Guy in Charge is an ingenious and imaginative novel about human vulnerability and manipulation, and the deadly charisma of conmen. A fable with the power to unsettle us by its parallels with current realities. In it, Luis Mateo Díez again proves himself to be one of the most original authors writing in Spanish today.
