The night she met the Dog, the Human was on drugs. That’s why she let her follow her home. Now she shares her home with an animal that saps her of her energy and is uncontrollably jealous. The Human is just thirty-two years old, but she no longer has desires. She inhabits her life but doesn’t live it. She is new to the city, having fled her rural home to escape an old boyfriend. She suffers strange symptoms: tremors, unexplained bruises. One day, she bends down to tie her shoelaces and discovers she can’t do it. The Human is afraid that a great evil is coming. Her psychiatrist won’t prescribe her more anxiety medication unless she goes to group therapy.
