Overview
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
A dazzling narrative that reconstructs, through the power of literature, the journey of a family that embodies Mexico’s recent history like few others.
In 1874, Emeterio decides to emigrate to Mexico in search of fortune, bidding farewell to his parents in a remote village in Asturias. In Mexico, his path takes him from shop boy, sleeping under the counter, to owner of a thriving chain of liquor establishments. But his successful efforts in business will not be rewarded by the work of his children, who squander the fortune in a dissipated life of constant trips to Madrid, nor by his daughters, condemned to secondary roles in a patriarchal society. When one of his grandsons, in the third generation, resumes the economic initiative, he will have to face an unexpected and devastating threat: the loss of memory.
