Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Weimar, 1944. In the heart of Germany, one of the largest concentration camps of the Nazi regime, Buchenwald, stands—an unusual place known not only for being one of the deadliest but also for housing a large zoo cared for by the prisoners themselves.

When José Luis Salazar, a weapons expert, is captured and transferred there, he assures his captors that he is Mexican, so they sew a small letter "M" onto his uniform. However, to everyone's surprise, a few days later, another young man arrives at the camp—a student of electronics named Juan Rodrigo del Fierro, who also claims to be Mexican.

This coincidence raises suspicions among the Nazi officers, who have heard growing rumors about a prisoner exchange between the Mexican and German governments. Under the constant watch of the officers, time is running out for "the Mexicans", as only one of them is telling the truth, and deception could cost them both their lives. Together, they decide to escape, joining a group of inmates planning an uprising inside the camp.

Julio Godínez draws from an incredible true story of survival to bring us a Holocaust novel unlike any other, an extraordinary case in which being Mexican meant the difference between life and death. A powerful call to hope and resistance.
