Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The parade of the outcast returns with new stories about the most dangerous criminals in Mexico.

This is the thrilling continuation of Los malditos (The Damned, with more than 40,000 copies sold), the book in which J. Jesús Lemus narrated his stay in Puente Grande, a federal prison, and how he managed to survive there under extreme conditions.

El Chapo Guzmán - El Güero Palma - Caro Quintero (continues) - Vera Palestina, murderer of El Gato Félix - La Rana, murderer of Posadas Ocampo - Armando Amezcua, The Amphetamine King- Sergio Villarreal, El Grande - Carlos Rosales, founder of La Familia - Orlando Magaña, The Murderer of Tlalpan.

During his time in prison, J. Jesús Lemus found a safety net in his work as a journalist, which allowed him to gather, for the first time, the stories of some of the most fearsome criminals. On this occasion, Lemus intends to continue the journey, not only based on the confidences of other inmates but through a detailed testimony of his personal experience.

Lemus describes the most heinous emotions, such as when he received a sentence that meant entering “the last hell”. From the darkness of the dungeons, we find stories like those of El Grande, a lead operator for the Beltrán-Leyva, who claimed to have the favor of high-ranking politicians. Furthermore, Lemus uncovers strange anecdotes about capos of the stature of Caro Quintero or Güero Palma, who participated in “imaginary escapes” or “stagings” that the prisoners had to go through to survive confinement. The narration in first-person by Humberto Rodríguez Bañuelos, the murderer of Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo, is another key moment of the book. He reveals where the order to kill the cardinal came from and exposes the arguments for which at some point he was considered “the best assassin in Mexico”.

The compilation of The Damned is one of the most disturbing testimonies about the deprivation of liberty and, at the same time, an overwhelming search that reveals how the government uses prisons as authentic centers of extermination.
