Overview
From the author of Death and Other Occupational Hazards comes a darkly humorous novel with a splash of mystery, perfect for fans of KAOS, about a woman who not only has to deal with a bad breakup and the boss from hell - but also has to stop the end of the world.
Every villain arc begins with good intentions.
Chloe has always considered herself a reasonably decent person. She recycles, tries to be a tidy flatmate and has a rescue goldfish. She works in fashion, admittedly, but nobody's perfect. Certainly not her new boss who spends more on spiritual cleansing than salaries. Still, Chloe has never knowingly contributed to the downfall of humanity. But then a mugging on her commute leaves her with some rather disturbing new (murderous) impulses and things only get stranger from there.
Before long, Chloe makes the dubious acquaintance of the mythical Great Evils. For a group with the world's worst PR, they're not quite what she expected. And, unfortunately, they need her help — someone is hunting them down, one by one.
At first, Chloe doesn't see how that's her problem, or even a problem at all. Until a mysterious and inconveniently attractive advisor to the Ministry of Defense appears, and Chloe discovers what happens when the world becomes catastrophically good.
Turns out that if she wants to save humanity, Chloe might just have to become the villain it needs.
