These towns and neighborhoods are often ignored in discussions on Black America and their success was often met with resistance--often violent resistance. This book illuminates the achievement and culture of these communities, while exploring racism in a comprehensive, honest, and age-appropriate way. Developed in conjunction with educator, advocate, and author Kelisa Wing to reach children of all races and encourage them to approach our history with open eyes and minds.
