Arrogance has marked intellectuals since the dawn of history. The vast majority of artists and creators have done everything possible to separate themselves from, and look down on, ordinary people in order to present themselves as a distinct caste. The ancient Brahmins of India, the obscure Greek philosophers, the opaque medieval debates, and the current incomprehensible literature that receives accolades and awards are—from Enrique Serna’s perspective—other moments and examples of a history of arrogance that, of course, also exists in our own country.
In this book, the author asks: Who can read and take interest in a specialized article that has no intended audience? In a text that only cites its peers and fills page after page with impenetrable prose?
