God's Mission, Our Calling (The Redemptive Purpose of God in the Old and New Testaments)

Contextual engagement and strategic thinking are critical for missions, but a globally engaged, Christ-centered vision must flow from a deep, sustained encounter with the biblical narrative. Mission is a central theme woven throughout Scripture--rooted in the Abrahamic covenant, expressed through Israel's calling, and ultimately fulfilled in Christ and the Great Commission.

In this book, Samuel Yonas Deressa traces the theme of mission from Genesis to Revelation to reveal how God has always been calling all people to himself. The result is a theological framework for understanding God's global work of reconciliation and kingdom expansion, a work in which he invites us to participate. From his Majority World perspective, Deressa also discusses covenant, justice as shalom, worship, and the Holy Spirit. He includes many practical applications from the Global South, where the church is growing rapidly and believers are living out Scripture's mission in powerful ways. Their daily tests of faith in real struggles uniquely show how the Bible's message of healing and reconciliation speaks directly to brokenness.

This accessible book is for students, pastors, missionaries, and mission leaders who are looking for a deep biblical foundation for understanding missio Dei. It includes a foreword by Darrell L. Whiteman.
