The Untold Story of a Model City
Cary is more than just a great place to live and raise a family. The city was founded in 1871 to be a dry town by Allison Francis Page, who wanted it to remain alcohol-free for 1,000 years, but alcohol was legalized in Cary in 1964. It is reportedly the home of two hidden treasures—one dating back to the Civil War and another placed more recently by The Treasure Man. From approximately 1940 to 1970, it was known as "The Gourd Capital of the World.” Downtown Cary added the first paved road in the state. Author Katherine Loflin details these fascinating stories and more.
