This is said by someone who, for various reasons, confesses to having crossed the border about 1,600 times in his life, for work, anxiety, or boredom. Crossing a dividing line requires intellectual effort, an understanding that nations have doors that open and close; a fixed idea that any country, whichever it may be, reserves the right of admission to its gardens and could throw you out at the first provocation.
