"We carry the history of our families and our cultures in our psyches as well as our genes," says B. Amore, one of the artists featured in the book.

The artists involved with "Italianità : Contemporary Art Inspired by the Italian Immigrant Experience," all with significant professional achievement and recognition, are each represented with full-page, full-color images of their artwork and a personal essay that connects their family story to their art. While the work of these artists is conceptually and aesthetically diverse— the author groups the artwork into nine sections, including Needlework, Sculpture, The Natural World, and Abstraction— what connects them is "il filo," the thread, of life in an immigrant home and their own relationship to the country their progenitors left behind.
