Overview
Giuseppe Caputo
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
“It was all an exuberant collection of visions, as if the Nauyaca and the mountains and nature in its entirety would have drunk the hallucinatory fermentation.”
Thirst Leaves with the River tells of the flow of existence and nature along the river Nauyaca, a place nestled in the mountains, where only water and wind dare visit. It is there that Jeremías disappeared, the man who secretly stores the bejuco firewater that breathes some life into the people of the region.
Jeremías is lost, same as the whole town, only seeking to ease his thirst in the middle of this living landscape, where human is remote.
With a most beautiful poetic prose, nurtured directly by dreams and ladened with images that are diaphanous truths, simplicity, hallucinations, Andrea Mejía confirms why she is one of the most striking and exceptional voices in Colombian literature today.
“In each book, she fuses—always unexpectedly—the word poetic, the word narrative, and the word thinking.” —Giuseppe Caputo
