Overview

Eduardo Sacheri

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

An anthology of soccer stories by Eduardo Sacheri.
From the author of The Secret in Their Eyes, Eduardo Sacheri.

An anthology of soccer stories that includes now-classic tales, such as “Waiting for Tito” or “You’ll Have to Excuse Me,” and four previously unpublished stories.

“I like to tell stories about ordinary people. People like me. People like those who have always been part of my life. I don’t even know why these are the stories I feel compelled to tell. Perhaps because I am drawn to and moved by what is exceptional and sublime in our ordinary, anonymous lives. Soccer often inhabits those lives. Because we’ve played it since we were kids. Because we love a club and its jersey. Because it’s one of those fundamental experiences upon which our childhood is built—and therefore, who we are and who we will become.

I believe that all the stories we tell seek to address, in one way or another, the great themes that govern our lives as human beings. Love, pain, death, friendship, anguish, betrayal, triumph, waiting. And yet, it is not easy to tackle those themes head-on and without shortcuts. Soccer, as part of the life we lead, is a gateway to those intimate worlds where far more definitive matters are at stake. A stage, or a backdrop, for the essential things that mark and define all lives.”
Eduardo Sacheri
