Overview
Set over a single day, Leaving follows a father from the first silent cigarette on his balcony at 5.07 a.m. to an inevitable final meeting deep in the forest, ten hours later. Along the way, as he attempts to deliver his six-year-old daughter to his estranged wife’s ex-lover in London, the narrative unfolds as a live, first-person broadcast: an unflinching meditation on capitalism and patriarchy, delivered with mordant wit and lyrical digressions. Both a brutal commentary on contemporary Montenegro and a tender portrait of the outcasts and misfits who live on the margins of society, Leaving is a searing last testament of a man, a nation, and perhaps an entire civilisation.
