They committed some of the worst atrocities and used thousands of people as guinea pigs for their experiments. The book also examines the reverse movement: deported physicians who risked their lives to help the sick, using deception, concealment, theft, and forged documents to save others, and the moral tensions of entering the so-called “grey zone” described by Primo Levi.
