Nina must abandon her home in the Big City with her partner and their teenage son because of a threat of collapse. They decide to move to the country house where she lived as a child, which has been abandoned for a long time. However, for her, her family’s past, each stone holding up the house, the wetlands at the bottom of the gorge, are black wholes of combat and violence she cannot escape, swallowing up every hint of light.
“I will be free,” “I will never fall in love,” “I won’t have children,” “I won’t have a home,” said Nina when she managed to run away from that place. But in the end, her story as a woman alone doing great things, or doing minuscule things, who cares, has had many twists and turns, like the branches of a fig tree. Think how easy this would be without them. Without Iván and Ariel. Right now, she wouldn’t even be here, where she swore never to return, trying to find a new beginning to give everything meaning.
