Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Compilation, introduction, and editing of unpublished texts by Maria Cristina Secci, with a foreword by Juan Villoro and an afterword by Jorge Fornet

Jorge Ibargüengoitia, in his unmistakable style, shares his impressions of the Cuban Revolution and the cultural Cold War in this book that brings together unpublished texts, original versions of chronicles, and correspondence offering a unique and critical perspective on a decisive historical moment. The work recovers the complete version of “Revolución en el jardín”, where the author narrates with irony his stay in Cuba after winning the Casa de las Américas Prize twice (1963 and 1964) and his clashes with the island’s political expectations. It also includes “Los compañeros de viaje”, about his participation in a symposium funded by the United States, along with other pieces that portray, through humor and satire, the ideological struggle to win over Latin American intellectuals.

This book highlights a key stage in Ibargüengoitia’s career: his transition from a little-recognized writer in Mexico to an international figure, always faithful to his skeptical and mocking outlook, capable of turning politics and literary prestige into material for comedy.
