Overview
Plague birds— the powerful merging of humans and artificial intelligences who serve as judges and executioners after the collapse of civilization— still control the world. But since Crista betrayed her fellow plague birds and saved the living city of Seed, their rule has weakened. Genetically-modified humans and ethereal AIs flock to the city to live without the constant threat of death at a plague birds' hand.
However, the peace Crista worked so hard to build is shattered when strange attackers destroy part of the city and kidnap one of her best friends. Determined to save them, Crista and the automaton, Ama, pursue the enemy. But they soon discover themselves trapped in a reality-bending war between an unknown entity threatening the world, and the very plague birds Crista once betrayed. Now, Crista must decide if she'll join forces with her fellow plague birds to stop this threat, even if it means risking the life of her kidnapped friend— and that's if the plague birds don't simply kill her first.
