Overview
Sixth grader Amy LaPonte has never really thought of herself as deaf. She can lipread and speak. She goes to public school, has friends, loves music, and mostly fits in, even if she has to work harder at it.
Then she sees on TV a protest called "Deaf President Now," advocating for deaf rights, and it sparks a revolution inside her too. Over the course of eight nail-biting days, with her own simmering friend and family drama-and a looming sleepover party destined to go sideways-Amy starts to question: Why does everyone around her pretend she's just like them when she isn't? And what will it take for others to see her-and for Amy to embrace herself-as she truly is?
This joyful, painful, and triumphant story invites you to see the world through deaf eyes and appreciate the uniqueness inside every human being.
