A changeling in the house is only the beginning.
1949: Four years after D-Day, Thomas Gregson, widowed veteran turned Scotland Yard inspector, leaves London for Ireland, taking a train to visit his former brother-in-arms, Colin Shanahan. Colin’ s wife Marjorie has just given birth in their remote, rural hometown, and Thomas has been asked to serve as the baby’ s godfather.
A restless night and a driving storm change everything: in the morning, a wailing child lay in a crib unprotected by charms hung there only the day before. Marjorie suspects the Good Folk have stolen their baby and left a changeling in its place. When local police are less than helpful, Thomas reluctantly agrees to investigate.
Though started with sympathy and skepticism, the investigation soon spirals into something darker— and as a struggling mother grapples with child or changeling, Thomas might just run out of time to find the truth.
