1949: Thomas Gregson, a widowed WWII veteran turned Scotland Yard inspector, arrives on Ireland’s remote west coast for what should be a simple visit. He plans to take a break from chasing criminals, enjoy the rural beauty of County Galway, and become godfather to his friend Colin’s newborn son.
A restless night and a driving storm change everything, leaving a wailing baby and a distraught mother come morning. Misplaced protective charms and the nursery’s open window have convinced Colin’s wife, Marjorie, that the Good Folk have stolen her son and left a fairy in his place. When local authorities are less than helpful—and the fascinating yet prickly midwife is on Marjorie’s side—Thomas reluctantly agrees to investigate.
