Overview
“Chills, terror, and volcanic climax.” —Chicago Tribune
“Exciting…amorous…mystifying.” —Hartford Courant
It’s Ed Hunter’s first case as a detective with Chicago’s Starlock Agency, where he and his Uncle Am have landed after leaving the carney life behind. Except for the attractive blonde client, it doesn’t appear to be much of a case—looking into an inventor in rural Illinois who claims his new radio receiver is picking up signals from outer space. But on the road to meet the inventor one night, Ed is startled by an inhuman growl before stumbling across a man sprawled in a ditch with his throat torn out. Was it an animal attack or a psychotic killer, or something worse? Whatever it was, everything that can go wrong from now on does. Ed’s feud with the local sheriff who hates big-city private detectives and his pursuit of a pretty young librarian who’s not quite what she seems only complicate the job he was hired to do, never mind the job he’s forced to do if he wants to save his own neck—solving a grisly murder.
From the Edgar Award–winning author of The Fabulous Clipjoint and The Dead Ringer, The Bloody Moonlight is Fredric Brown at his best.
“[Ed & Am are] an engaging pair of detectives…[Brown is] a real pro—a natural storyteller.” —New York Times
“[Fredric Brown is] my favorite writer of all time.” —Mickey Spillane
