Overview
Spanning the Devon coast from the Second World War to the present, The Lost and Found Hotel is an emotional, uplifting book club read about the secrets families keep, the lives we settle for, and the courage it takes to start again.
On a clifftop above a beach stands The Wavecrest – a rambling, old-fashioned hotel where the tea is strong, the armchairs are deep, and three generations of women have had their lives shaped by the same secret.
Rose has the life she was taught to want: the West London house, a doctor husband, two small children, a successful career behind her. She also has a restless feeling she can't name and a fear her marriage is quietly falling apart. But when her elderly, sharp-tongued mother summons her back to the hotel she swore she'd never return to – and then vanishes on a mysterious journey of her own – Rose finds herself running The Wavecrest, raising her children among the guests, and bumping into the man she once thought was her future.
She only came back to hold the fort for a few weeks. But the secrets of the past won't let her go. What if uncovering them means finding out who she really is – and what she really wants for her one precious life?
Back in 1944, as the world tears itself apart, a shy, bookish girl falls in love with the one man she is forbidden to love. What passes between them will reshape a family for fifty years.
