Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Converted into a legend, both for her life and her work, Tina Modotti had a life full of passion and fury.

After migrating from her native Italy and a brief stint in Hollywood, Tina Modotti arrived in Mexico in the early 1920s accompanied by Edward Weston, an American photographer with whom she worked as a model and who imbued her with his passion for photography. There, she encountered European avant-garde movements and an artistic and intellectual community enthusiastic about revolutionary ideals: Diego Rivera, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Jean Charlot, among others. After the death of the Cuban hero, Julio Antonio Mella, for which she was accused, her fervor for the communist cause led her to fight in the Spanish Civil War until she returned to Mexican lands, always with the aim of materializing her ideals of social justice through the lens of her camera.

The Elena Poniatowska Library gathers the narrative, essayistic, and biographical work of the portraitist par excellence of the historical condition of women. In Tinísima, she recounts the spirit of one of the most dazzling artists of the 20th century, whose legacy has made her a legend.
