Overview

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Grijalva is a reporter in a world in decline. In the mid twenty-first century, Earth acquired rings like those around Saturn following a cataclysm that destroyed the electrical system and the electronics on which modern life depended.

She and her stepson travel to Tamarindo, a town in Veracruz, Mexico, where the children suffer from a strange condition: They speak and behave like other people, possessed by distant and painful stories. There are signs that the syndrome may be contagious and the authorities have taken notice, making the search for an explanation even more urgent. As Grijalva’s investigation continues, we learn what happened to the planet twenty years ago, when she was a music student infatuated with her teacher and her father just a digital projection in a meticulously detailed virtual world.

All That We Love and Let Go is much more than a science fiction novel. Using intimate and precise language, Elisa de Gortari has written not just an account of the world’s potential fate but also, and above all, a secret love letter to all the things that give life meaning: from music and poetry to the ephemerality of first times and the myriad, and sometimes difficult, ways we care for and love each other.
