A young scientist with a past in revolutionary activism is summoned by former comrades to carry out a "blood mission" that could alter the outcome of a presidential election during the transition from military dictatorship to democracy. The mission forces him to interrupt a scientific report on a neuroscience experiment that would prove free will does not exist. As the report unfolds, it becomes intertwined with the dilemmas the protagonist faces while living alongside his intended victim, the unexpected disruptions and complications of love, and the carefully crafted plan he develops with the patience of a chess player.
