Paris, 1939. The young Odile Souchet has it all: an attractive boyfriend who’s a police official and the job of her dreams at the American Library of Paris. But when war breaks out and the Nazis march through Paris, Odile risks losing everything that’s important to her, including her beloved library. She knows that during these difficult times the temples of culture are in danger because books contain forbidden words and ideas that must be destroyed. Odile can’t allow this to happen: she must save those pages, so they can nourish the mind of those who come after. Along with her coworkers, she joins the Resistance and makes the center available to jews: expelled from their homes, they feel safe behind the books, and Odile will defend them at all costs.
